A WORD FROM MR PIENAAR

WEEK 8 ALREADY!
This term is flying by, and it’s amazing to think we’re only a few short weeks from the finish line. I always find this leading up to Easter to be one of the most meaningful times of the year. Our staff devotions become a beautiful tapestry of perspectives—each person sharing their own heartfelt way of expressing Easter’s significance. No matter how different the stories or reflections are, they all circle back to the same life‑changing truth: Jesus gave His life so that we could be saved. What an extraordinary act of love. This week, I was especially grateful for the opportunity to share the Easter message with our Junior School students. Moments like that remind me why this season—and this calling —matters so deeply.

Last Friday’s Sports Day was a wonderful success! A heartfelt thank‑you to Mrs Mentink, Mr Graves, and their dedicated teams for organising such a well‑run and enjoyable event. We were blessed with perfect weather, and it was clear that our students loved every moment. To all the parents who joined us on the day, thank you—your support means so much and truly adds to the atmosphere.

Looking ahead, our Ag Show Team Information Evening will be held on Thursday 19 March. I warmly encourage all students interested in joining our Show Teams this year to come along. Our teams continue to excel year after year, and this evening is the perfect opportunity to learn more. Mrs. Zimmerman, Mrs. Fegan, and our Ag team will be sharing insights and outlining what’s ahead for 2026. I hope to see many of you there as we begin another exciting season together.

Harmony Week (16–22 March) is here, and this year’s theme, “Everyone Belongs,” is a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from inclusiveness, respect, and a deep sense of belonging. The week also highlights the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. To celebrate, our Unity College community will be adding a vibrant splash of orange this Friday across both our JS and MSS campuses. It’s a simple but meaningful way to show that every person in our community is valued.

NAPLAN 2026 (Years 3, 5, 7 & 9) began last week and will wrap up by the end of this week. Catch‑up sessions for students who were absent will follow shortly after. I want to extend my sincere thanks to all staff involved in organising and supervising NAPLAN. Your preparation and calm leadership ensured the process ran smoothly, especially in a year when many schools have reported challenges in the media. We are grateful for your professionalism and care.

Our Pedal Prix Information Evening was held on Tuesday, and it was wonderful to see such strong attendance. The excitement for the season ahead is already building. Unity has invested in a brand‑new trike for our Mini Mouse team, giving them an excellent opportunity to perform at their best in upcoming races. As always, these events rely heavily on the support of our parents and carers. We are seeking volunteers to assist with catering, team organisation, and race‑day logistics. Your involvement makes an enormous difference, and we truly appreciate those who have already committed their time and energy this season.

OUR CALLING AS STAFF AT UNITY COLLEGE
At Unity College, I believe every member of our staff has been placed here with purpose. We are called to serve, to guide, and to help shape the lives of the young people entrusted to us. Benjamin Franklin expressed this beautifully: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This captures the heart of our mission. Each day, we strive to create learning experiences that engage, uplift, and empower our students—walking alongside them as they grow in character, confidence, and understanding.

A verse that speaks deeply into this calling comes from Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

It reminds us that our work is more than a job; it is an act of service and love.

I want to reassure you—and your children—that we are here for you. Whenever a need arises, our commitment is to put students first and to lead the “Unity Way” together: staff, students, and parents united in purpose.

Blessings
Mr Francois Pienaar, Principal
