SERVICE LEARNING
SERVING TO LEARN
LEARNING TO SERVE
Our Service Learning opportunities encourage students to have a heart for service, developing a deep understanding of the meaning, practice and value of service from a Christian perspective and providing experiences of service as a way of living and learning – lived out in community and centered on sustainable and reciprocal partnerships.
Unity College currently offers two Service Trip opportunities, an international experience to North Sumatra, Indonesia and a trip to Areyonga, Northern Territory – our sister community in Central Australia.
INDONESIA PARTNERSHIP Program
Unity College has established a partnership with SMA HKBP Secondary School and SD HKBP Primary School in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra with support from the LCA International Mission.
MISSION
To promote a relationship with an overseas community that impassions the whole school community through sharing God’s love for people by serving communities and recognising their needs by embracing and engaging in the local culture.
SERVICE TRIP
The Service Learning Trip to Indonesia is open to Year 11 students who elect to complete the Indonesia Service Learning elective within the Year 11 Christian Studies Curriculum. The course sees students gain SACE credits through Integrated Learning and involves planning and preparation for the mission, delivery of English language programs and Australian cultural lessons at SMA HKBP School and SD HKBP School. The Service Trip runs for approximately 10 days and incurs some additional costs.
AREYONGA SERVICE TRIP
The Areyonga Service Trip is an opportunity open to Middle/Senior School students building and maintaining vital relationships between Unity College and Areyonga community in Central Australia.
The trip helps students develop an understanding of service in a remote Aboriginal community and an appreciation for the cultural and environmental conditions presented to the Areyonga community while providing an opportunity to see first hand the beauty of Central Australia.
The Areyonga Service Trip is an optional experience running for approximately seven days and incurs some additional costs.
