VOCATIONAL PATHWAYS (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is an important part of Unity’s diverse curriculum offerings. VET courses are designed and taught by industry experts, providing practical knowledge and technical skills for a wide variety of trade and industry roles.

WHY STUDY VET?

VET is an excellent choice of study for many students. Including practical, hands-on learning, VET leads to a range of job opportunities in a huge array of fields. There may also be an opportunity to complete school-based apprenticeships.

Studying VET as a part of the SACE gives students a head-start on a qualification, which is a great way to fast track progress towards a rewarding career.

VET AT UNITY

Students are able to complete the following pathways onsite at Unity College through various Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s). The courses are open to enrolled Unity College students as well as external students:

  1. Engineering: Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
  2. Community Services: Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability)
  3. Sport and Recreation: Certificate III in Fitness

Courses delivered through the Trade Skills Centre are based on student demand and are subject to change. Please see the curriculum guide for the most up to date information regarding VET course offered on-site at Unity College.

Unity College Senior School students are also able to access a wide range of externally offered VET courses and are supported by College staff through their VET journey. Students are encouraged to talk to the Pathways Team if they are interested in pursuing VET.

SCHOOL BASED APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPS (SBAT)

Unity College recognises that there are many different pathways students take to achieve their SACE. One of these is through School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeships (SBAT). Students can complete their SACE by working towards a trade qualification whilst at school. An SBAT gives the unique opportunity to combine VET training, with an employment contract whilst still completing SACE. SBATS are generally highly valued by employers and are a valid pathway for students to transition from school to employment, further training or higher education. SBATS are not just available in the traditional trade pathways. Students are encouraged to talk to the Pathways Team if a SBAT is something they are interested in pursuing.
