FINISHING THE TERM STRONG TOGETHER THROUGH
LEARNING, LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION
As we move quickly toward the end of term, we encourage all students to remain focused, committed and determined in their learning. The final weeks of the semester are an important time for students to consolidate their understanding, complete assessment tasks and prepare well for upcoming exams. Our Year 9, 10 and 11 students will soon commence their examination period, and we encourage them to approach this time with discipline, preparation and confidence. At Unity College, we want every student to achieve to the best of their ability and to feel proud of the progress they have made when reports are distributed at the end of the term.
A reminder to families that our semester change will take place on Tuesday 16 June in Week 8. Please also note that Monday 15 June will be a Student Free Day. On this day, our staff will be engaged in important preparation, planning and curriculum organisation to ensure a smooth transition into the new semester and continued excellence in teaching and learning across the College.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending the Lutheran Principals’ Australia Conference, where I was inspired and challenged by an outstanding group of keynote speakers. Dr Marcus Collins shared powerful insights into leadership, culture and influence in a rapidly changing world. Professor Richard Hall explored leadership development, organisational change and the future of work, encouraging educators to think strategically and courageously about the future of education. Taryn Brumfitt, Australian of the Year 2023, delivered a deeply moving message about positive body image, self-worth and social change, while former AFL player and leadership advocate Luke Darcy encouraged leaders to lead with clarity, purpose and intentionality. The conference was opened in worship at St John’s Lutheran Church Southgate by Ps James Winderlich reminding all delegates that faith remains central to our calling as Christian educators.
We also extend our sincere thanks to all grandparents and special friends who attended our recent Grandparents and Special Friends celebrations across the College. It was wonderful to see grandparents and friends engaging so warmly with our students in the Early Learning Centre, Junior School and Middle School classrooms. Watching visitors walk alongside students, participate in learning experiences and tour our school community was truly special.
Thank you for your support, encouragement and the many positive comments shared with staff throughout the event. Your presence strengthened the sense of belonging and community that we value so deeply at Unity College.
As we enter the last weeks of Term 2, may we continue to encourage one another to persevere and give our very best in all that we do – staff, students and parents.
I leave you to ponder on this verse: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Colossians 3:23
Blessings
Mr Francois Pienaar, Principal
