In 2025 Unity College again has the opportunity to connect with local training GPs (RMOs/doctors) through the RACE Program (Riverland Academy of Clinical Excellence) supported by Bridge Clinic. Our Junior School involvement with the program aims to reduce fear associated with visiting a health professional and to inform students of how to care for their bodies. Our aim at Middle/Senior School is to empower students to make informed and positive health choices through sustainable connections with health providers in the Murraylands. This year’s plan is below:
Term 2
Year 9: RMOs will visit Friday Week 1 Term 2 following the PPEP session. RMOs will speak with students about how they can access support if they have any concerns regarding pelvic pain or endometriosis
Receptions: RMOs will be back following last year’s much loved ‘Teddy Bear Clinic’. More information will be provided on this soon.
Term 3
Year 11: RMOs will support the ‘In Your Skin’ Sexual Health program by presenting information about contraception, sexually transmitted infections and local sexual health support options. Students will be provided with the opportunity to ask anonymous questions.
Year 9: students will be able to deepen their understanding of the sexual health topics already covered through the THRIVE program. RMOs will present basic information about contraception, sexually transmitted infections and general reproductive health. Students will have the opportunity to discuss pregnancy, labour and birth with a trained obstetrician.
Please note that all information discussed and presented during these sessions will be of a general nature only and individual advice cannot be provided.
If you have any further questions, or do not want your student to be involved in the program, please contact the relevant Pastoral Care Leader (Year 9 – Alex Bulley, Year 11 – Mat Philps, or the College Counsellor – Jessica Herrmann.
