Everything is winding down around our agriculture area as the students finish off their assessment tasks for the end of the year. The vegetable patches have been cleaned up and all the paddocks have been raked out.
The Term 4 Pig trial will end in Week 8 as we finish off the Paddock to Plate aspect of the curriculum. The five female pigs have been real characters and have been taking the hotter weather in their stride. It astounds me how quickly they grow!
Next week will we also begin to say goodbye to the Point of Lay chickens that have begun laying and are ready for their new homes. We will also say goodbye to their neighbours, who have been our laying chooks for 2024 as they are being rehomed.
There are plans for setting up the propagations of some succulent cuttings in readiness for the 2025 Food Fest and it is great to see that our pumpkin seedlings are “taking off” in the hope that we have a large crop to also sell at next years event.
So even though we “destock” over the big holiday break there are always things going on in the Ag area. Needless to say, we have begun planning our 2025 stock, and are looking forward to what the New Year brings to Agriculture at Unity College.
