NEWS FROM THE UNITY FARM (18 JUNE 2025)

UNITY AGNEWS – THIS WEEK IN AGRICULTURE

There is always something happening in the Ag area, and this week has been no exception! Students have been busy with daily animal husbandry tasks – cleaning yards, topping up feeders, and caring for our show animals.

Both our dedicated Show Teams and students in Ag practical classes are hands-on with the animals. They’ve been learning to wash, dry, halter, and lead them in preparation for upcoming shows. The more familiar the animals become with these routines, the more confident and polished they’ll be in the ring.

Garden Harvest: All garden beds have been harvested, with produce distributed. Herbs and silverbeet are still growing—perfect for our chickens!
Ag Produce Stall: A hit during Grandparents & Special Friends Day! We sold veggies, citrus, pumpkins, succulents, and promoted our Chubby Chicken Grain. Proceeds go toward Ag resources and infrastructure.
Year 5 Projects: Students completed their “Cows Create Careers” assessments, now on display in the Junior School Ag classroom and entered in the national competition. Calves Craig & Casper returned to the Fischer farm at the end of Term 1.
New Ag Shed: Our Junior School Ag Shed is now complete! It houses Chubby Chicken production and recycling sorting equipment. Year 5 Certificate of Ag students have already begun using the space to make bags of Chubby Chicken.
Chickens Galore: We have 5 Isa Brown hens for egg-laying, soon moving to the new JS Ag Area. Plus, the 32 Isa Brown pullets raised from day-olds are heading to their forever homes this week.
