Can you believe it? We’ve officially hit the halfway mark of Term 2 – time seems to be flying by!
Bridging Now to Next
Before looking ahead, I want to thank Mrs Sharon Gierus for her outstanding organisation of our Sorry Day event. It was a meaningful day that began with a beautiful flag-raising ceremony led by our Ngarrindjeri Students and Student Leaders.
At assembly, we watched a special interview with Lucy Tanami (LT), an Aboriginal teacher and artist from the Northern Territory. LT shared her Stolen Generations story, her connection to the Wave Hill Walk-Off, her love for AFL, and her recent project painting Collingwood players’ boots for the Indigenous Round.
This Friday, Shirley Hartman will visit to share Ngarrindjeri language and songs with our Junior School. Over the coming weeks, we’ll mark Reconciliation Week with the theme Bridging Now to Next. Activities include decorating the school with coloured ribbons representing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and creating footprint stories. At Unity College, we proudly celebrate the languages and cultures of all our students and families.
Student Free Day and Retreat Week
Semester change will occur in Week 8, with a Student Free Day on Monday, 16 June to allow staff time to prepare.
A reminder that this term runs for nine weeks, with the final week (30 June – 4 July) dedicated to Professional Development. Our PD Week program has been carefully designed to support collaboration and learning across R–12.
On Monday, 30 June, Unity College will host the AISSA Southern Regional Conference. A select group of Independent schools has been invited to attend, and this will be a valuable opportunity for all staff to engage in relevant and impactful learning. We’re pleased to welcome keynote speaker Madhavi Nawana Parker, who will present: “Wellbeing at Work: Finding joy and connection every day, no matter how much you have on your plate.”
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to Unity College. Together, we remain committed to serving our community through our shared calling.
Spiritual Food
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
This verse is a powerful reminder that no challenge is insurmountable when students rely on Christ for strength. It encourages perseverance and resilience, reassuring children that they have the power to overcome any academic hurdle.
Blessings
