A WORD FROM MR PIENAAR (23 APRIL)

Welcome to Term 2! I hope the holidays were a time of rest, connection, and renewal for you and your families. As we begin a new chapter in our school year, we do so with anticipation and excitement for all that lies ahead.

With the change of season comes a shift to our winter uniform. We ask all families to support our efforts in maintaining high standards by ensuring students are wearing the correct uniform and adhering to our College expectations regarding grooming, hair, jewellery, and personal presentation. Our staff have been asked to be diligent in upholding these standards, and your partnership in this matter is deeply appreciated.

As always, Term 2 begins with an important national moment—ANZAC Day on April 25. This is a time for us to pause and honour those who have served and sacrificed for our country. We are proud that Unity College students will be laying wreaths and representing our school with reverence and gratitude at local ANZAC services across the Murraylands.

One of the most powerful tools we have as educators, parents, and caregivers is the ability to encourage. Words of affirmation can have a lasting impact on a child’s confidence, wellbeing, and motivation. At Unity, we believe that every child is uniquely created by God, and it is our privilege to speak life, truth, and hope into their journey each day.

Here are just a few affirmations you might consider using at home to uplift and inspire:

+ Jesus loves you, and so do I.
+ I’m proud of you and who you’re becoming.
+ You’re a problem solver!
+ You’ve got what it takes to be a leader.
+ Your mistakes don’t define you.
+ You. Are. Priceless.
+ You inspire me in so many ways.
+ Our family wouldn’t be the same without you.
+ You’ve got this.

In our classrooms, this culture of encouragement is lived out every day. Our staff see teaching as a calling—a vocation through which we aim to build confidence, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging in every student. As part of this, our morning Pastoral Care Resilience Program supports students in building positive relationships, finding purpose in their learning, and developing the emotional strength to navigate life’s challenges with hope and courage.

As we move through this term together, we look forward to continuing our partnership with you—parents and caregivers—as we nurture the hearts, minds, and faith of every child at Unity College.

Blessings for a fantastic Term 2,
Francois Pienaar
