Week 8! This term is passing by quickly, with only a few weeks remaining. I always look forward to the lead-up to Easter. During this time, our staff devotions provide a range of perspectives on its significance. Each person offers their own unique way of explaining the true meaning, but it always comes back to the same powerful message: Jesus gave His life to save us. What an incredible sacrifice!
Sports Day is coming up this Friday 21 March. I am looking forward to seeing our students compete in different races and events – always an exciting day for staff, students and parents who attend. It is great to get to know our students on another level and to build relationships.
Our Ag Show Team Information Evening was held on the 12th March. Many students with their parents attended the session. I am very proud of our students that are volunteering to help with feeding the animals over the weekend – thank you. A great start to our Ag show program at Unity. Thanks to Debbie and Caitlin for doing all the presentations on the evening.
NAPLAN 2025 was successfully completed yesterday, and we only have a few catch ups to do. I want to thank all our staff and students for their diligence in getting this done.
Harmony Week (17 – 23 March)
“YOUBelong” Day at Unity
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
How to celebrate? Let’s come together with friends and family and through schools, workplaces and our wider communities celebrate our diversity.
Why orange? Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
Our Cultural Diversity
Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country, rich with history and diversity—from the oldest continuous culture of our First Australians to the many cultures of our newest arrivals from around the globe. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and it shapes who we are as a nation. It’s what makes Australia such a great place to live.
An integrated, multicultural Australia is central to our national identity. Every person who migrates here brings with them unique cultural and religious traditions, while also embracing new ones. Together, these traditions enrich our community and our nation.
Our Calling as Staff at Unity College
I believe every staff member at our College has been called to serve our community. Benjamin Franklin’s words capture the essence of this calling: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This is what we strive to do every day as staff here at Unity—engaging, supporting, and nurturing our students in meaningful ways.
I want to remind both you and your children that we are here to support you whenever a need arises. Our main goal at Unity College is to put our students first, leading the “Unity Way” as a team of staff, students, and parents.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and please remember, my door is always open.
Blessings
Mr Francois Pienaar
